Gabrieleno In The Winter - Part II
Febrary 4, 2001
So what do you do when you enjoyed a ride so much the first time around? Well, you go do
it again! Yes, for the second time in two Sundays I did this beastly ride and had even more fun
since I knew what to expect. This is the longest/highest trek I've taken on my singlespeed and
was elated to find that it wasn't any problem to complete. These photographs are meant to complement
the pictures I took last weekend, so to get a "complete" pictorial perspective on the ride you'll
need to visit the first article.
A short description of the ride goes something like this:
5000+ feet of accumulated elevation, 32 miles round trip starting
by JPL in Pasadena, climbing Sam Merrill Trail to Echo Mountain, climbing Mt. Lowe Railway Trail to
Mt. Lowe then to Mt. Wilson (by the observatory), descend to Gabrieleno's start via paved road, descend
Gabrieleno to Switzer Falls, descend further down Gabrieleno to Arroyo Seco, then finally back to the
car. And there's talk of doing another variation of this loop again on Sunday... Yeeha!
(To view enlargements of these thumbnails, just click on the picture and a "zoomed" version will show up that you
can drag around. To make it disappear, just click again on any image.)
