    mallett's bash

HeeHee Big Smile I just put my entry in for the Mallett's bash - it's a local ride in memory of a fine chap who worked in the same bike shop I did. He tragically died of cancer at a bastardly early age, He was a really good bloke.

Anyhow, I'm going for the moderate ride  as my first ever competitionish ride....I've always had to work on that day up to this year Sad

Any other UK singlespeeders up for it??

...possibly, but where is Bicton? As a thoroughly time-served lanesman I have travelled extensively in Merrie Olde England, but never did I hear of a place so named.

Ah, yes, halfway between two major cities - I really should have known. Such a prominent location will make it easy to find.

Seems I don't know the West Country as well as I thought. Is Brizz'l in Debb'n?  Wink

...Done, just got home. Big Smile

Only one other singlespeeder;  I saw so many crudged derailleurs, clogged chains, etc. I wore through a pair of v-brake blocks that were brand new on friday and my chain looks well sad for itself, but no mechanical problems whatsoever. [:-)]

51km in 4hours 3 minutes ride time - 4 1/2 if you count refreshment stops. The people manning the stops have surely a place in heaven - free bananananas, flapjack, fruit cake, muffins and spring water ad lib.

Insanely muddy conditions, it hasn't been dry for weeks so conditions were varied, porridgey mud, chocolate sauce mud, gluey mud, clayey mud and muddy grass with nettles. Fab course. If anyone's interested I can scan the route map in.

Off to the pub for recovery drinks now

Yes, it would be good to see the route map.

I live just over the border in Somerset, so it would be good to have a go next year.

I'm new to the forum so missed the earlier posting of the topic.

May see you there next year on my single speed mtb.Big Smile

    Re: mallett's bash

Nice work! Sounds like a good cause and an appropriate recovery plan.
