    Gaaaah! Ebay annoyance

...I bought a jacket off th'ebay -  A sombrio vapor -great reviews everywhere, seemed like a good jacket. 200244485256 listed as 'LTD EDT' fairy nuff, I bid and it turned up. I wore it out on saturday.

Build is fabulous, quality all the way. It seemed a bit clammy on the inside, but I figured it was a light jacket with a specialised 2.5 layer fabric, and I just didn't know how it worked. 10 miles down the road and I'm running with sweat inside the arms and back. Then it started raining and I was soaked through.

I emailed the seller asking for washing instructions in case it could be fixed with a good wash/proofing. No answer. surprise surprise.

I emailed Sombrio. Good guys answered me. Apparently what I have is a sample preproduction jacket - the inner layer should have a felted coating, not done on the sample, and the outer waterproofing layer was - guess what, not done on the sample.

So I lashed out my cash for a non-functional jacket. The seller didn't actually lie. What the hell do I do now? .

    Would you

    1) be honest and ebay it with a full description

    2) relist it with the exact same description as I bought it under, dumping the hassle on some other poor sucker

    3) mark it down to 'expensive mistakes'

    oooh the moral maze....

    Re: Gaaaah! Ebay annoyance

The description which the seller used was misleading as it states in the title and description 100% waterproof which it clearly is not. It is possible (probable? ) that the seller did not do the research that you did with the manufacturer and therefore did not know this.

One solution would be to treat the jacket with a proofer such as Nikwax TX either spray or wash in.

You could email the seller with your findings ask the seller to refund the cost of the proofer about £5 including postage as a very fair compromise to the situation.

At least you would have a usable jacket.

Have you already left feedback ? otherwise hit them with neg feedback for no reply to misleading description.

They are not selling at the moment and have not sold other jackets like this so hopefully no one else gets stung

Never leave feedback until you have tried the item.

It is also slightly dubious why this seller has the jacket to sell, the company must take some blame for not clearly marking as a non functioning sample. It does not look good for them if non working jackets are circulating which may get bad comments on forums etc.

Have you asked them politely if they may wish you to return the jacket to them / their distributor and hope they may give you a gift in gratitude.

firstly; welcome to the board Smile

I was fairly annoyed that I left the +ve before testing it. (I don't do much ebaying) I'll know better in future.

I have washed the jacket with nikwax TX , thinking it might be an option.(I haven't worn it since though) The incredibly clammy inside of the jacket (sleeves particularly) would put me off using it, but it seemed my only possibility. Until I reread the description and saw that the seller offers a 7 day return policy, they have now agreed to take it back but wouldn't refund the postage, and they're off on holiday till september, so not to send it till then...

In the meantime, I will try your idea of contacting Sombrio as a 'worth a try' idea. I was very impressed by their attitude...
