I got a last minute call from my friend Ricky to be on his shop's four man townie team for the 24 Hours in the Sage last weekend. I can't say no to Ricky - especially if it's to ride or ski so I accepted. It's also a lot of fun.
This race has positioned it's self as the world championship 24 Hour townie competition. For those not familiar with the term, townies or town bikes are cruiser-style bikes people use to get around town, but generally not to mountain bike. I've done it as a member of the winning singlespeed team the last two years, and last year with two guys who were on this team so the outlook was good.
But fate was not on our side. A couple of mechanicals put us 20 Minutes behind the winning team who came over the divide from Salida. So we have a plan to get that elusive title for next year, which will include carrying the appropriate tools to change a flat on our townie.
But second place wasn't too bad either. I had to ride a lap standing up due to a bent seat post but I did win a $10 gift certificate to my favorite sandwich shop, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.
Here's a few photos from the madness and a pitch for the event. It's fun! They even made dogs, brats, and pancakes and sausage for everyone. Free! And there was free beer too. That's my kind of race! For more on this check out
my site or the
event's official site.

Me leaving for the "lap of pain" which was done almost entirely standing up.
