    dilema

my built from scrap bike (the polished one in show section) needs a headset ,it's dead ,cups scored balls flatted etc

    so

do i carry on in the vein that it was built and fit the cheapest option or buy a nice hope or even king headset for it  ?

as stated it was build outa the spares box ,but it was right first time ,i fitted apair of old short travel (40mm) pace forks but wasnt any better

than the spinner rigids first fitted ,i fitted discs but still the v's suited it better so do i just repair it or be more selective about what i bolt on ?

    soul?

    Re: dilema

Get a used, cosmetically scruffy Chris King on Ebay, normally about £35 in the UK (probably far less in the US) - which is only about three times the price of the cheap Chinese steel budget rubbish. If the bearings are smooth it should be OK, and will outlast anything else on the market. It will certainly outlast three cheapies! You can take it from frame to frame in the future. Cable rub, scratches, marked crown-races, unpopular colours and missing top-caps bomb the value of King headsets - without any performance problems - so there are potential bargains to be had. Just make sure the bearings are described in the listing as being smooth, and that all four essential parts are present.
