We all know steal is the real deal (if you don't, get with the program).  But which is the best steal?  Reynolds? Columbus? True Temper?  Tange? Who's the best in the land? 

853 is the one for me.  Like to get a hold of some of Reynolds new stuff though.  I heard a whisper about a 953 tubing.

It's gotta be the True Temper OX line. Reynolds is soo... typical.

Do you you mean STEEL?

Anyhow, I like steel frames. The feel of a steel frame is dictated by the tube diameters and guages. True Temper OX, 853 or Tange Prestige (IMO the best steel cycle tubing types) should feel pretty much the same if the diameters and guages are similar. They're all great. I like 853 because it has that unique 'Air Hardening' quality, and of course it's (sort of) British. I don't know whether 953 will be a success, as it's expensive and presents additional problems to frame builders. Those extremely light guages should be of little interest to people who already gained a significant weight benefit from having avoided gears and suspension. It would be nice if Reynolds could do a cheaper/heavier/softer stainless steel tube set. Anyone remember Columbus Metax?

I have a reynolds 501 'Falcon' frame with a set of 531 forks but I also have a Claude Butler 531 frame and forks.  Was in the process of thinking about a build for option one when I discovered option two.  I have read that 501 was 'stiffer' and the ride could be softened by 531 forks?  what do people think?
